I'm Baaaaack...

Hopefully it hasn't gone unnoticed that I've pretty much fell off the face of the map here in the blog world. These past few weeks have been a whirlwind of emotions, events, and enlightenment.
[Yeah, in that order.]

I have so much to write about and I have no idea where to even start.

If you followed me before you know that I was a Realtor and a bartender last time I posted. Since then I've dropped both of those jobs and have two more; one part time, one full time..in addition to starting my own business.
[A post for a different day].

Real Estate at the end of the day just wasn't for me.

I ended up just bartending and I was okay with that for awhile, but not knowing how much you'll make every day is stressful and nerve racking.

After our 2nd anniversary in July, we came back from NYC and I was feeling down. I decided to walk to our local coffee shop to work on my resume and cover letter. When I got there I noticed a sign on the window that said help wanted. It wasn't exactly what I was looking for, but it was in walking distance and was semi-steady. It was only paying minimum wage plus tips, but the environment was really cool too. As I ordered my drink I asked about the position, ended up filling out a resume, and having an interview within the next 20 minutes. I will say one thing, I've never had any problems in finding at least some kind of job.

I am now proud to say I'm an optician again. It's a job I worked before, but this time I'm working at a local Veteran's Hospital. It is beyond gratifying and in the past weeks has had me revisiting a career I once thought of persuing...Optometry. More specifically, I would like to be an O.D. (Doctor of Optometry) specializing in geriatrics. My goal of course would be to work within the VA Hospital.

This would mean A LOT more schooling (at the very least 6 years), but I really think this is something I could be good at and would thoroughly enjoy. The most difficult will be that Josh and I are doing this all backwards, well not really backwards just not the "normal" way. We will probably have to spend large amounts of time apart, but in the end we would both have good jobs, a place to call home, and by then truly be ready to become parents. It would better ours and our future familys lives. What's the downside to that? I would be "away" for approximately 4 years, but what's four years in the grand scheme of things?

Call me crazy, but I'll soon be looking at if I should continue my business degree and add on the prequisites needed (this would allow me to stand out amoungst other hopeful optometry students) or if I should just change my degree to biology; where my prerequistes would be included in my course load. Decisions, decisions.

Either way I'm almost completely sure this is what I want to work towards.

Any thoughts or advice? I'm all ears. =)

I'm big on noted "check points" in life and now in the blog world.

Inspiration

"Things will get better,
days will be brighter,
and I promise someone has it worse."

Whose words are those?

They're mine.

Upon journaling this past week when I was feeling down and I typed these words at the end of my "post". I was writing so quickly that I didn't even know what I typed before it was there.

I'm inspired and lifted by them and I hope when I have a down day I can look back to it and remember not someone else's word, but my own.

I'm also hopeful that maybe they could lift yours too.

What inspires or picks you up when you're having a bad day/week?

Breaking Old Habits

I have had a terrible habit since I was young and I've never been able to overcome it. What is it you ask?

Biting my nails.

I never really addressed it, but without trying I've stopped. Now whether this is short lived or not, I'm not sure. My good friend, Michelle, did my nails. See them HERE. It'd been awhile since I had my nails done and I really enjoyed having them.

After I lost a few I decided to take them off and use the decals I got for Christmas to do my nails for a Pittsburgh Penguins game we were going to. See them HERE.

Then when the decals wore off, I kept them painted even though they were chipped and I kept thinking I needed to change them. I put it off and I put it off. I'm now left with nails longer than I've ever had naturally.

Let me just say when I started thinking about doing the 101 in 1,001 I was going to put no biting my nails for 30 days, I honestly didn't think I could do it so I didn't add it. It's a small accomplishment, but it feels great.

Are you working to break any habits?

Significant Other Saturday #3

Welcome to the another edition of Significant Other Saturday! I am excited to be teaming up with Rachael @ You, Me, and Natalie for these weekly posts/link ups!

"No significant other is perfect and it doesn’t really matter. What matters is how we set ourselves up to think about them. If we focus on their failures, their annoyances, or ways in which we have felt hurt by them, then we will interact with them as a hurt and frustrated and disappointed partner. That makes for miserable living for ourselves and our partner and those around us. But if we focus on their strengths, their potential, and the ways in which we feel blessed by them, then we will interact with them as a forgiving, blessed, and contented partner. And there’s no greater need a partner has than to feel respected by their lover. If they feel like all they do is hurt, disappoint, and frustrate, then the same atmosphere and the same actions will be perpetuated. But if they feel that their partner can be happy and responsive regardless of their own shortcomings, they feels respected and empowered. Then a positive atmosphere is perpetuated and actions, once destructive, can improve in an environment that is rich for cultivation and growth into deepened respect and intimacy."

Significant Other Saturday is a day in which we can all get together and remember why we fell in love, why we continue to love, and why we will always love our partners. Too often we take our relationships for granted and just expect them to be there. Join Rachael @ You, Me, and Natalie, and me - Ida, as we challenge you to be attentive to your relationship and tell us all about your partner and why they are so special to you!

This weeks topic: One thing that you could work on with your partner and how you're working on it.

Christmas 2008

Making decisions.

It's mainly me, but we're terrible at making decisions. Not the big ones, the small annoying ones. For example "What's for dinner?".

They've caused little disputes, but I think we're starting to work past them.

We were doing really great before we both got sick and hopefully we'll be able to get back onto track here in the next week. We compromised and would go to the gym, come home, and make dinner together. We took turns most of the time deciding what we would like and it worked really nicely.

Eventually, we'd like to do a meal calendar and have it "prepped" ahead of time. We'll get there, I'm sure of it.

Pic of the Week: March #1

I really can't wait to have a better camera. Hopefully this time next year I'll have a nice DSLR to explore and capture with, but in the meantime I really just want a better phone.

My phone is a purple blackberry curve and while it was kind to me for some time, I'm well past a need for an update. I used my update to upgrade Josh's phone for his birthday last year, which he loved!

I'm eligible for an upgrade in April. I'm itching so badly for a new phone AND a new camera. I take so many pictures with my phone on a day to day basis. Plus, I'm ready to start the 365 day photo challenge for my 101 in 1,001.

I'm looking at getting the Iphone 4s. I've been "against" apple for quite some time, but reading Steve Jobs biography has me intrigued. Also, I'm anxious for Siri. Being a Realtor and always on the go I really think it'll help me with day to day tasks. Here's hoping!

My cuddle pup. = )
Blogging the other night in bed she curled up right beside me and slept for quite some time.

In it to End It!

As you can see I'm participating in my local Relay for Life.

I've managed to raise $180 of my $500 goal, but I know I can exceed that.

Every single dollar counts. If everyone of my facebook friend were to give just $1, I would have raised $636!!

Help me in funding this great cause.

"We're in it to end it!"
